Your helmet must be on your head and fastened at the entrance to transition. Officials WILL BE checking that your helmet is correctly fitted, i.e. when fastened you should only be able to get two fingers under the strap. Please ensure it is adjusted correctly before trying to get in, you will be turned away if it’s not correct. Checks will be carried out. CHECK RULE BOOK
See website: https://nicetrievents.com/events/st-neots-triathlon-series-2/
The swim course will start with a downstream swim. Minimal flow at the moment ! Throughout the Swim keep the large Red & Yellow buoys to your Right. You return up stream still with the large Red & Yellow buoys to your Right. The last buoy should be passed on your right and immediately turn Right back to the river bank where you will exit the water to transition. So its easy, keep all buoys to the right and you can't go wrong!
Is currently around (20.0) which means wetsuits are optional. (See the rule book HERE.) Please bring suitable clothing for the bike section after getting out of the water.
This is a natural river so as you enter and exit the water take your time and be aware of slips, trips and falls. Upon exiting the water marshals will be in the water to give assistance if you require it. Water Saftey Ltd will be on the water for your safety. Please abide by their directions. There will also be motorised rescue launches for your safety, again abide by any directions given. If during the swim you find yourself getting into difficulty, simply turn on your back and raise one arm into the air and raise a vocal alarm. Canoeists and bank rescue staff will come to your aid. If you appear to be struggling in the swim or have been in the water for a long time you may be pulled out at the discretion of the safety crews.
Please ensure that you are competant at swimming this distance. Ensure that you have practised and completed this distance in "OPEN WATER" prior to attending this event. If the saftey teams decide that you are not a competant enough swimmer you will be removed from the swim section. This is not only for your own saftey but the others around you.
*YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SWIM “BACKSTROKE” AT OUR EVENTS*
You will be disqualified if found doing so.
*Note that water safety is only provided during the race itself. Do not swim
in the river outside the swim race and allocated warm up times.*
Bring only essential equipment into transition, bags will not be allowed next to your bikes and will be removed to the edge of transition. Obvious position marking will be dealt with by the “Transition Official” resulting in time penalties. You have been warned ! Run into transition, find your bike, do not touch your bike until you have put you cycle helmet on and fastened it. Run with your bike out of transition via the exit marked with “bike out” signs. Do not get on your bike until you reach the marked mount line. Remember at this point your race number should be displayed on your back.
Once on your bike leave the park with a left hand turn taking extreme care as you join the carriage way. The bike course is on open roads with no road closures so ensure you follow the Highway Code at all times. This event is a non-drafting race i.e. you cannot take shelter behind or beside another competitor or motor vehicle and will be penalized if reported to be drafting. Please read the new NON drafting rules HERE
Look out for the signs and marshals to keep you on the right course! Pay particular attention on the country lanes and at the junctions. It’s YOUR responsibility to know the course, do not rely on signs and marshals. Although it is very well signed and marshalled. There are speed bumps and traffic calming areas.
Extreme caution is needed upon entering the town as you go down Bushmead hill; it has a sharp and blind left roundabout turn at the bottom. On the approach to this junction you will be required to enter a filter lane which will help you negotiate the turn safely, the filter lane is MANDATORY and only wide enough for 1 bike at a time. There will be marshals to help and warn you of the filter lane, BUT anyone not using the filter will be reported to the race official and a time penalty maybe awarded. So its worth getting it right. You have been warned! Ride safely it’s not worth dying for.
Please make sure you undestand the requirements / format of NON draft legal racing CLICK HERE FOR RULES. "I did not know" is not an acceptable excuse.
Once back into the pit lane you will dismount your bike before the marked dismount line and run with your bike to the entrance marked bike in, rack it the same place you removed it from, you may then remove you helmet. Then run out will be at the opposite end of transition marked with “RUN OUT” signs. Ensure your race number is now facing forwards.
Once you return from your bike and cross the bike dismount line your race is complete. You can then return your bikes to your racks and come to the chip timing tent and return your timing chip. Here you will be able to view your times and positions and collect that well deserved medal and post race refreshments.
Exit the transition and turn immediately right and follow the marked course (flags/ arrows/ and
tapes) you may run on either the path or grass next to the path, your choice. Marshals will be on all turns, Please remember the paths are open to the public, please be courteous. There will be a water station as you lap past transition. As you near the final stages of the run please ensure you go down the finish straight and not on for more laps than needed !
